The following links allow accessing to several videos
showing the software facilities we have developed in the
framework of this project:
- Obtaining adaptive pedagogical units (adaptive SCOs)
Each course consists for several pedagogical units, each one focusing on a
different concept. In the SCORM jargon, the units able to communicate to the Learning
Management System (LMS) are referred to as SCOs. Some of them can be
adapted in the IDTV receiver according to the student's profile. For this to be
possible, the adaptive units must have been designed taking into account this
goal, i.e. it is necessary to generate adaptive SCOs. Consequently, we have
designed an authoring tool, the "SCO Creator Tool" that makes this task easy to
pedagogical unit creators (mainly teachers) without demanding specific computer
knowledge.
- TemplateCreator Tool This video
shows how to create different Java templates, which are used by the SCOs
creators to define SCOs. A SCO is based on a Java template, and its
designer only must fill the gaps in the template with the appropriate
information and contents.
- Authoring tool:
SCO Creator Tool This video shows how to generate a simple
adaptive pedagogical unit (adaptive SCO) using the authoring tool we
have designed and implemented: the SCO Creator Tool. The pedagogical
experience included in the adaptive SCO is automatically personalized
in the IDTV receiver according to the student's preferences.
- Creation of adaptive courses
With the aim of not only creating adaptive pedagogical units, but also allowing
the adaptation of whole courses, we have enriched the well-known Reload
tool. Thus, we have added a new module to this
authoring tool, which was designed to create SCORM compliant courses. This new
module allows course creators to specify different options to organize the
activities and the most adequate student's profile to each one.
- Reload Adaptive This video shows how to create
an adaptive course, using both the basic functionality in Reload and the new functionality
we have added to this tool. The new functionality maintains the
philosophy of the original tool. So, course creators used to managing the
Reload tool will be able to manage the new functionality without special training.
- Adaptation according to the user's profile at the IDTV receiver
The IDTV transport stream includes not only the traditional audiovisual
contents, but also any kind of data, such as applications. Thus, the adaptive
courses generated as the previous videos show, are included as additional data into the transport
stream to be carried to the user's receiver. These courses are detected by the
ITS ( Intelligent Tutoring System ) we have designed and developed, that
we have coined t-MAESTRO. This ITS automatically selects which courses are the
most adequate to each user, according to their profile. Then, and once the concrete user
selects which course is going to see, t-MAESTRO adapts on runtime the course
contents according to his/she preferences.
- Personalizing adaptive courses (
video 1 , video 2).
These videos show how is the whole
receiving and adaptation process at the IDTV receiver. Firstly, t-MAESTRO
selects the most adequate courses among those that have been received in the
IDTV transport stream. Then, the user refines this selection by choosing the
course he/she is going to see. Finally, the course is automatically
personalized at runtime according to the user's preferences.
